Your tour leader:
Karsten Jannicke has climbed anything within reach since he started to crawl. After travelling the world and climbing amongst others Aconcagua (6995m) and crossing the Patagonian Ice Cap on a new route, he turned tourism into his profession. For nearly a decade Karsten helped organising over a thousand Kilimanjaro climbs based out of Arusha, Tanzania, at the foothills of Mount Meru. Ten times he reached the summit of Kilimanjaro with groups between 2 and 41 climbers.
His love of the East African bush and of sharing that passion with guests has led to an engagement as Camp Manager in the wilderness of Tsavo West national park, Kenya.
Karsten is passionate about adventure tourism that benefits local and indigenous communities bordering national parks. In his time in Tanzania he worked closely with KPAP and with NGOs that worked in the prevention of poaching. He has done research into high altitude medicine and has a Wilderness First Responder certificate. Working as a guide has taken Karsten through the East African bush, remote national parks of Patagonia and to the volcanoes and bears of Kamchatka.
